Some people have, when making a new game, mistaken the comparatively long fighter initialisation period as a crash. It isn't. The whole process can take up to half an hour, depending on the size of the game world and the speed of your computer.
If it does appear to be taking one hell of a long time, one way of knowing that the make game process is still working is if the game facts are still changing from time to time.
3 Quitting the Game
-------------------
In order to maintain the integrity of the game world it is essential that you quit the game in the appropriate manner. That is via the Game Options screen and the opening screen. If you don't do it like that, it'll cause you problems.
